Basel’s third FuckUpNight took place in a new location at #Fluxdock, “a platform for collaborative companies” that offered a comfortable, modern space perfectly suited for our group of approximately 45 attendees, speakers, and hosts.
The speakers
Our first speaker, Asitta Tabatai, shared a valuable lesson from her childhood of the pitfalls of pride, ambition, and enemy thinking versus the long-lasting benefits of teamwork. As a word of caution, she uses birds, the only dinosaur to survive, as a metaphor: “be a bird, not a dinosaur.” Asitta runs her own practice where anyone – individuals, couples, or teams – can develop healthy techniques for managing stress, change, and conflict.

Our second speaker is a master of persuasion – so much so, in fact, that he offers Persuasion Skills Training courses! Kurt Schmid offered insights into the advertising world while
speaking about the importance of knowing your strengths, weaknesses, and limits. Like Asitta, Kurt emphasized the value of teamwork and how much more can be achieved as a group. Has the advent of the Internet brought on the end of marketing? Only time will tell, but one thing that will never change is that knowing your talents as well as your short-comings will always lead you in the right direction.

Daniel Jordi, head of jordico, wrapped up the night with a lesson on how one doesn’t always choose their career but rather sometimes the career chooses them. When you find the same kinds of projects, clients, or offers constantly landing in your lap, maybe consider not fighting it! He describes himself as a natural “connector” and dedicates his professional life to putting humanity back into doing business. His services range from high-level coaching to board member opportunities to strategic partnerships.
