Business and Entrepreneur Profile: Mandy Hu
Every new business has a unique story – we want to tell those stories to support them in their growth path and inspire others to offer their talents to the market.
Mandy is a committee member of the PWG Basel and the founder of Dragon Girl Dumplings.
We asked her a couple of questions about how it all happened and can share the answers with you.
What is your business about?
I have a Chinese Dumpling food stand called Dragon Girl Dumplings at Markthalle Basel. All dumplings are handmade from scratch and I also serve other Chinese dishes.
How did the idea for your business manifest itself for you?
I couldn’t find any good Chinese restaurants in Basel and I always had to cook my favorite dishes at home so I thought since I am cooking most of the time, why not share my food with others. I also wanted to introduce my Chinese culture through food.
How long did it take from the idea to actually implementing the business?
not much time
What was the best experience for you (until now)?
Meeting different people and talking with them about their idea of what Chinese food is. It is great to have customers who appreciate my food and come to eat regularly.
What was the biggest challenge for you?
Setting up the business was difficult for me especially when I can not speak German. I need a lot of help translating contracts and sourcing for equipment.
Did you have advisors, mentors, friends who supported you in the process?
Would you do it again?
Thanks Mandy for sharing insights about your experience with us. We wish you all the best for the future of Dragon Girl Dumplings and put a visit of your food stand on our schedules.
