As we fill up our agendas with work goals, relationship goals, personal development goals, and more, we often forget to carve out some time to take care of ourselves – and this lack of attention may be keeping us from reaching our goals!
Health coaches Aletta Karsies van Eden and Vanessa Gatelein, both of whom focus their self-care counseling on nutrition and diet, define “self care” as any activity that gives you the energy you need to carry out your goals, what you’re most passionate about. Activities may include referring to things that bring you inspiration related to your passion (books, movies, websites, or music, for example), meditation, movement, food, and other forms of nourishment that feed you energy.
Every one is different, and none of us come with a manual – it’s up to us to proactively identify what “nourishes” us, and to create good habits and rituals that help us get closer to our goals. Sharing your rituals with friends is a great way to stay accountable – your friends want to see you succeed!
